One of the cars came to a rest on its roof. A passenger was ejected from the vehicle while it was rolling.

Rescue Care’s Garrith Jamieson says the remaining occupants of the vehicle, two men and a woman, sustained multiple injuries and died at the scene.

He says the woman who was thrown from the vehicle was found in a critical condition.

“Advanced life support paramedics worked to try and stabilise her, however she went into cardiac arrest. Despite resuscitation efforts she was declared dead at the scene,” he said.

A father and son had been travelling in the second vehicle.

Jamieson says the driver was critically hurt and placed on a manual ventilator.
