Collin Pillay, who Govindasamy was having an extra-marital affair with, was arrested days later.

He has pleaded not guilty to the crimes.

Yesterday, Nikita’s boyfriend at the time told the court how he messaged the 16-year-old repeatedly after walking her home from school on the day of the attack.

The 17-year-old said after WhatsApp messages stopped going through, he turned to texting and then tried calling her. He said the phone eventually went to voicemail.

He was cross-examined by Pillay’s Legal Aid attorney, Amanda Hulley, who asked him about the relationship between her parents.

He said Nikita confided in him about her father messaging another woman and that her parents had been fighting days before the murders.

Meanwhile, Pillay’s ex-girlfriend and mother of his child, Pushpa Moodley told the court that she called Pillay on the day the bodies were found. She said he told her that he was at the Govindasamy home and that Jane and her daughters had been killed.

Moodley told the court that he did not sound any different on the phone.
