Phoenix school steps up security after shooting
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Stanmore Secondary School in Phoenix says it will be stepping up security at the school.
This after a Grade 9 pupil was shot by a fellow learner while playing a game of Russian Roulette at the high school on Friday.
A number of children who witnessed the shooting will undergo more counselling this week.
The chairperson of Stanmore’s Governing Body Josephine Naicker says they will be introducing routine screening and physical searches as well as metal scanners as part of their new safety measures.
''That's also going to assist us just to pick up any sort of unauthorised, specifically weapons that are brought to school.
''For us safety is one of the most important thing for our children and as soon as we investigate this matter, as to how the weapon was brought in etcetera, I mean whoever is supposed to be accountable will certainly be held accountable,'' she said.
The boy who underwent an operation on Friday is said to be recovering well in hospital.
