NPA say former KZN MEC's corruption case may take time
Updated | By Bernadette Wolhuter
The case against the former Economic Development MEC, Mike Mabuyakhulu and 15 others, still has a way to go before the matter's ripe for hearing.

Mabuyakhulu and a number of business people, politicians and companies are facing a raft of graft charges, relating to R28-million which in 2012, the provincial government spent on a music festival, that never took place.
The case came before Durban's Commercial Crimes Court yesterday for what was expected to be a transfer to the city's High Court but the defence requested further particulars from the State, which is holding up proceedings.

The NPA's Natasha Kara explains the process going forward.
"The magistrate made an order that all legal representatives of the accused are expected to submit their requests for further particulars. The State will have to respond to those requests for further particulars - particularly from each representative of the accused. Once that matter is resolved then we will look at a high court date," Kara said.
The court heard yesterday Mabuyakhulu wants the case against him expedited. His attorney, Jimmy Howse argued the case appeared like it was going to be prolonged and, as a politician, his client is being negatively impacted.
