Newlands West maulana unharmed in kidnapping and hijacking drama

Durban police are investigating a case of kidnapping and hijacking after a maulana was attacked while leaving a mosque in Newlands West, north of Durban.

Newswatch understands the maulana had just finished conducting prayers at the Steel Castle Mosque and had been walking to his car when he was accosted.

A witness has told Newswatch he screamed at the hijackers when he realised what was happening."I realised it was a hijacking so I screamed at him to give them the car keys and I told them to please leave [the Mualana] because he was a priest from the mosque," said the witness.
"They then opened the back door of the car and pushed him in. I felt so helpless when they pointed a firearm at me."
The man says he immediately put a distress notice in one of the social media groups he belongs to.

Police were dispatched and the car was tracked down in KwaDabeka less than 30 minutes later.The maulana was found inside the vehicle unharmed.
