Newlands driver in custody as formal bail hearing set for next week

The man accused of ploughing his taxi into a group of schoolgirls in Newlands East - yesterday says he fears for his life.
Three pupils from Newlands East Secondary School were killed and one was seriously injured in the crash.
It's alleged the accused skipped a red robot and struck the girls, dragging them for some distance.
Thirty-two-year-old Siboniso Zwane appeared in court on charges of culpable homicide as well as reckless and negligent driving.
Zwane appeared in the dock wearing navy shorts and a golf T-shirt. He kept his arms folded and his gaze downcast during proceedings.
A request for members of the media to photograph the accused was denied after he indicated through his legal aid attorney - that he fears for his life and the life of his children.

The state is currently opposed to bail as apparently the address he provided in invalid. The case has been adjourned to next week for a formal bail application.
In the meantime, Zwane remains in custody.
