Father says family of Newlands crash victim devastated

The father of one of the three schoolgirls who were killed in a crash in Newlands this morning says while he's in shock - he's trying to remain strong for his family.

Thulani Mtshali was at work when he got the devastating call that his 14-year-old daughter, Ayanda, had been involved in an accident.
"I received a call at around 7:10am from one of my neighbours - informing me that there has been an accident. I had to rush there to find out what happened. When I got to the scene - I had to identify my daughter who was deceased."
A minibus taxi ploughed into Ayanda and three other girls, The fourth child was taken to hospital in a serious condition.

Mtshali says his daughter, who was a Grade 8 pupil at Newlands East Secondary School, was on her way to write her Maths exam.
"It's shocking and frustrating as well. When I went home, my other children were crying. I had to rush back to see where they were taking my daughter's body," he said.
A 33-year-old man has been arrested on three counts of culpable homicide.
