Blue Security officer, Phumzile Fitshane was shot on Monday after responding to a robbery at a house on Maxwell Avenue.

This morning - a tribute was held for the father of four - who succumbed to his injuries in hospital on Monday night.

A convoy cars with security officers, members of the SAPS, other emergency services personnel and residents made its way along Bluff Road en route to the home in Maxwell Avenue where Fitshane was shot.

The group observed a moment of silence at 09h25 - the exact time Fitshane was shot on Monday morning.

His colleagues from Blue Security then laid a cross down in memory of the 44-year-old officer while emotional residents watched on.

After the tribute, Newswatch spoke to a neighbour who heard the gunshots and rushed to Fitshane's side - along with another neighbour.

"I could see he was hurt. He cried out - help me, help me. There was no one else on the road. So we told him that help is on the way," she says.

Fitshane was rushed to a nearby hospital.

The woman says a second neighbour later came out and told her that the domestic worker from the house that was targeted - had taken refuge in her house.

"I asked her how did the maid get to your house - she said the maid jumped over the wall," she says.

Newswatch later spoke to the helper, who told us the first thing that came to mind was to run, after she saw the group of armed robbers entering the property.

The woman, who is on crutches, fractured her ankle and grazed her chest while tumbling over the wall to the neighbours.

The assailants remain at large.
