Municipal workers assisting with Umlazi refuse collection

Fawzia Peer says municipal workers are stepping in to assist now, as refuse collections resume in Umlazi.

eThekwini's Acting Mayor has been meeting with city managers to explore possible solutions - after waste removal services in Umlazi stopped, almost a month ago.
The municipality cut ties with external contractors over ongoing pay issues.
That's after private workers downed tools.

Yesterday, marked day one of the city's first waste collection by its own employees.
Peer says they will continue sending units from different locations to help until they employ new staff.
