eThekwini plans to end outsourcing of refuse collection
Updated | By Sandile Zikhali
eThekwini Municipality says it hopes to create more permanent jobs by insourcing waste collection services for Umlazi.
The city announced that from the 1st of July, it will be doing away with refuse contracts, and instead rubbish bags in the area will be collected by municipal workers.
During recent protests there, some roads were left in a mess when refuse was thrown on the street.

"The services will be managed by internal resources - which will be staff members who are already employed by the municipality. As time goes on - there will be opportunities whereby everybody, including staff members part of the programme, are encouraged to apply," eThekwini's Mandla Nsele said.
