Msunduzi ‘refusing’ to cooperate with Cogta probe
Updated | By Andile Tsotetsi and Tsakane Mhlongo
Msunduzi Municipality has come under fire for allegedly refusing to cooperate with a forensic investigation by the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs in KZN.

The probe, launched in March, under Section 106 of the Municipal Systems Act, is part of a wider investigation into three municipalities in the province over maladministration, fraud, and corruption allegations.
The department says while KwaDukuza and Nongoma are cooperating, Msunduzi has failed to do so.
"MEC Thulasizwe Buthelezi wrote to the Msunduzi Municipality, placing it on terms to either cooperate or face the consequences of non-cooperation with a statutory investigation,” says spokesperson Senzelwe Mzila.
“The MEC is resolute in his commitment to enforcing good governance and accountability across all KZN municipalities and will not hesitate to act without fear or favour in the interest of residents and ratepayers."
The Municipality says it has not received official correspondence from Buthelezi and is also awaiting a response to a letter it wrote to him about the investigation.
