More cool and wet weather expected in KZN this weekend

East Coasters can expect another cool and wet weekend. The South African Weather Service says there is a 60 percent chance of rain across the province tomorrow morning, with maximum temperatures peaking at just 22 degrees in Richards Bay.

If you are heading down to Jonsson Kings Park for the semi-final clash between the Cell C Sharks and Xerox Golden Lions, the weather service says the rain should subside as the day progresses. Partly cloudy conditions are expected in the evening.

Kick-off is at 2.30pm.

Similar conditions are expected on Sunday, with temperatures remaining in the teens at most stations.

There is also a 30 percent chance of slight rain in Durban early on Sunday morning, becoming partly cloudy as the day progresses. Partly cloudy conditions are expected for Pietermaritzburg.

Temperatures on the route for the Tsogo Sun Amashova Durban Classic should peak between 17 and 19 degrees in Pietermaritzburg and Durban respectively.

Tourism KZN expects around 10,000 cyclists to take part in this year's race. Officials expect a cash injection of nearly R100-million into the provincial economy.

Meanwhile, the Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs in KwaZulu-Natal says its Disaster Management Teams and programmes will be enhanced in the coming months to deal with the effects of climate change.

The department says it is preparing for possible increases in flooding, severe thunderstorms and lightning this summer.

MEC Nomusa Dube-Ncube says awareness campaigns will also be launched at the end of the month to ensure the public knows how to keep safe during adverse weather.
