Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
The decomposed body of an eight year-old girl who had been missing for almost two weeks has been found in a bush in Mkhuze, in northern KwaZulu-Natal.
Authorities say the body was pointed out by a 31-year-old suspect who was caught assaulting another young girl in the area yesterday.
Police spokesperson, Thulani Zwane says community members heard the girl crying.
"The members of the committee in the vicinity went out to the bushes to help this little girl. On their arrival, the suspect fled the scene. The girl told the community as to what happened. He was handed over to the police," Zwane said.
Zwane says the suspect was thereafter arrested. He adds the man was then questioned about the missing eight-year-old.
