Missing Gauteng schoolgirl reunited with family

National police have confirmed that Amy-Lee de Jager has been reunited with her family.

"We can confirm that 6-year-old Amy-Lee de Jager, who was reported kidnapped, has been found," said Saps spokesperson Vishnu Naidoo.

The Grade R pupil was snatched from her mother outside her Vanderbijlpark school yesterday morning.

Naidoo says she is now back with her family.

The country became enraged yesterday when news of Amy-Lee's disappearance broke on social media.

Many South Africans began calling for her safe return and questioning the safety of women and children in the country.

Naidoo says she was found this morning.

"She is currently undergoing medical examinations. We appeal to all to allow for this investigation to take its course. Investigators are busy investigating the circumstances of both her disappearance as well as her sudden reappearance," he said.

Naidoo says they cannot say more at this stage.

The 6-year-old was taken by a group of men in a white Toyota Fortuner while she was being dropped off at school.  

The kidnappers later asked for a R2-million ransom.
