Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Police say they believe the metro police officer who died in a mass shooting - along with three other people in Durban on Monday - was the shooter.
"Police in Durban Central are investigating three counts of murder, one of inquest as well as four counts of murder after the shooting that took place on Monday," spokesperson, Thembeka Mbele said.
The shooting took place in the 39-year-old officer's flat in the city centre. Four other people were taken to hospital in a critical condition.
Spokesperson, Thembeka Mbele says witnesses have told them the shooting was a result of an argument between the officer and his friends.
"Thereafter, after a thorough investigation - one of inquest and four of attempted murder."
The officer's service pistol was recovered from the scene.
Yesterday, the Independent Police Investigative Directorate confirmed it was also investigating the shooting.
