The 23-year-old University of Zululand student who was shot during a robbery at his residence says his attackers planned to kill him.
Msawenkosi Nxumalo was shot on Sunday after robbers kicked down the door of his room at the off-campus residence.
"That was when I screamed out loud asking them not to kill me. They didn't answer. The next thing I felt was the first shot in my stomach, I screamed in pain. I believe everyone could hear my screams," he said.
He does not think he will be going back to campus soon.
The robbery led to violent student protests yesterday outside the university's KwaDlangezwa campus.
Thirty students were arrested for public violence after a satellite police station was torched.
They made off with a laptop and cellphone.

Speaking to Newswatch from his hospital bed, Nxumalo says he heard the robbers discussing whether they should "finish him off.""That was when I screamed out loud asking them not to kill me. They didn't answer. The next thing I felt was the first shot in my stomach, I screamed in pain. I believe everyone could hear my screams," he said.
"They fired the second shot and I just kept quiet, just to save myself, then they left."

Nxumalo says he is still in a lot of pain, but recovering.He does not think he will be going back to campus soon.
