Man shot in botched Durban hijacking

A man has been shot in an attempted hijacking in Durban's Glenwood area.

The man, believed to be in his fifties, was shot twice in the leg.
The attempted hijacking played out in Rhodes Avenue earlier.

Blue Security says three armed suspects approached the man while the man was sitting in his vehicle.
They allegedly opened fire before fleeing in their getaway vehicle.

Rescue Care's Garrith Jamieson says the incident occurred just after 11.30am.
"Advanced life support paramedics worked to stabilise the man on scene before he was transported to a nearby hospital for the further medical care that he required. At this stage the exact events leading up to the shooting are unknown," he said.

Charges of attempted murder and attempted carjacking have been opened at Umbilo SAPS.
No arrests have been made.
