Man rescued at unprotected Ballito beach

A Ballito lifeguard has saved a swimmer from drowning at an unprotected beach.

Reports from the scene are that the bather got into difficulty after being pulled by a strong current on Wednesday morning.
Medi Response spokesperson Paul Herbst says the lifeguard's been hailed a hero.

"A lifeguard on patrol spotted the man and crossed rugged rocks to enter the water and perform a rescue.
"The lifeguard was forced to swim the man to shore over rocks and both rescuer and patient sustained injuries.

"Medi Response advanced life support paramedics stabilised the man before transporting him to hospital for further care."
