Craig Botha, who's with Kwazulu-Natal Private Ambulance, says medics were called to the Sunwich Port area in Port Shepstone on Tuesday morning.

"When emergency services arrived, they found that five workers had been working in the garden with chainsaws when they were attacked by a swarm of bees.

"Paramedics accessed the patients and found that nobody had sustained any major reactions to the stings or sustained any injuries from the incident."

There were two serious bee-related incidents in the province last month.

Six people were hurt, two of them critically, after they were stung in Ballito.

Then, a Newlands West man succumbed to his injuries when he was attacked by a swarm of the insects while he was walking home.

Botha says bees are known to be more protective of their hives towards the end of Summer.

"If you find that you have disturbed a swarm of bees or a hive of bees, try and create some distance between you and the hive and if you can find thick bush or dense trees to take cover in those bushes or trees will minimise the bees attacking you as it confusing the scent of the stings."
