Man to remain behind bars for Umlazi massacre

The man arrested in connection with the murders of eight people in Umlazi last month will remain behind bars.

Sanele Dlamini appeared in the Umlazi Magistrate’s Court on Monday, following his arrest over the weekend.
The victims, aged between 22 and 40, were shot and killed at the Zama Informal Settlement.

The motive remains unknown.
"He appeared on eight counts of murder and four counts of attempted murder," says KZN NPA spokesperson Natasha Kara.

"The charges relate to the incidents that took place on 16 May 2025 at a tavern in Umlazi. The case has been remanded for a formal bail application."
