Malfunctioning valves behind Ladysmith floods – mayor
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
The Alfred Duma Local Municipality says three water valves responsible for extreme flooding in Ladysmith will be fixed by the end of next month.

The city was brought to a standstill this weekend after heavy rains left the CBD area submerged in water.
Businesses and taxi ranks were forced to halt operations for two days after the Klip River burst its banks, flooding the town.

The municipality's mayor Zama Sibisi says they have successfully secured valves needed to prevent the water from the river to flow into the town.
"When we started to experience this problem last year we enlisted the services of consultants and they advised us that our valves were not functioning properly.
"We had to make a budget to procure the valves. Unfortunately, we could only get eight out of 11 and we fitted the eight. We are still left with the three and that is why there were these floods in our town."
