Magashule's 'suspension' of Ramaphosa a 'clear sign of desperation'

Ace Magashule's 'suspension' of African National Congress (ANC) President Cyril Ramaphosa is a desperate move, according to political analyst, Dr Imraan Buccus.

Magashule, who received his letter of suspension from the party this week for refusing to step aside - On Wednesday responded by writing a letter to Ramaphosa, saying he's suspending him as the party leader.

Buccus says we can expect more shocking announcements as he tries to push back the NEC's decision to suspend him.


"This is a long-awaited decision and many people are welcoming the decision. We are also seeing clear signs of desperation from Magashule. 


"I think there's a lot at stake, particularly access to the public purse and resources as we go forward. I think there would be an appeal which could be over the reflected period."

He says a split in the African National Congress won't come as a surprise.


"I think this is a clear sign of the factional battle within the African National Congress which has come to the fore. It's signs that the Ramaphosa faction has gained the upper hand."
