ANC Secretary-General Ace Magashule suspended with pay
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
The African National Congress (ANC) Secretary-General Ace Magashule's party membership has been temporarily suspended until his criminal case concludes.
In a leaked letter - seen by Newswatch - addressed to Magashule and signed by Deputy Secretary-General Jessie Duarte, a formal notice is given with the suspension coming into effect on Monday.
It comes after the ANC NEC's 30-day deadline for members who are facing criminal charges to step aside or be suspended expired last week.
The letter is dated 3rd of May and states that the suspension has conditions, starting with Magashule being banned from carrying out his duties and responsibilities as Secretary-General.
Magashule may not represent the party publicly or in any forum and may not make pronouncements on matters related to the organisation.
The letter says that Magashule will be entitled to remuneration and other benefits as a full-time office bearer.
