These reports emerged late on Tuesday night – stating that Magashule’s arrest was “imminent”.

It was said to be related to his role in the controversial multi-million rand Vrede Dairy Farm project in the Free State – and dates back to when Magashule was premier of the province.

On Wednesday morning, ANC spokesperson, Pule Mabe, told ECR's sister station Jacaranda FM that the party is now waiting for feedback from Magashule’s legal team.

“The Secretary General (SG) became aware of rumours doing rounds of his “imminent arrest”. He then acted to inform his legal team to write to the relevant authorities and be able to establish the authenticity of these rumours,” says spokesperson Pule Mabe.

“Once all of the facts have been gathered and the ANC has a full understanding of what is going on here, the party he leads will also be able to come out and comment accordingly.”

Meanwhile, the Hawks have distanced themselves from the reports and slammed it as “fake news”.
