Mabuyakhulu case: 'Prosecution is being used to settle a score'
Updated | By Lethiwe Mdluli
Political parties in KZN have weighed in on the corruption and money laundering case against former Economic Development MEC, Mike Mabuyakhulu.
Mabuyakhulu and his co-accused appeared in the Durban Commercial Crimes Court yesterday in connection with a payment of R28-million for a North Sea Jazz Festival in 2012 that never took place.
They were released on bail after handing themselves over yesterday morning.
The KZN DA's Zwakele Mncwango feels the case brought against Mabuyakhulu reflects how entrenched factionalism is within the ruling party.
"The ANC has no interest in fighting corruption - they will use prosecution only to settle a score. For that reason, the ANC of Jacob Zuma is not the same ANC of Cyril Ramaphosa," he says.

The IFP has welcomed the developments in the case - saying the arrests are long overdue.
Meanwhile, the ANC in the province says it respects the rule of law - adding that the rights of the accused must also be fully observed.
The Hawks are reported to have said the case is not politically motivated.
