Former KZN MEC granted bail in fraud case

Former Economic Development MEC, Mike Mabuyakhulu has been granted bail of R50 000 by the Commercial Crimes Court in Durban.

Mabuyakhulu and several other co-accused are facing charges which include fraud and money laundering.
It's in relation to a 2012 North Sea Jazz Festival which the KZN government put into.
The charges emanate from a jazz festival that the city of Durban had been earmarked to host back in 2012 but never took place.

R28-million was paid out to companies which were meant to provide services during the event. The group which appeared today had been linked to these companies - with the amounts now said to be unaccounted for.
Legal representatives of the six read out affidavits for each which stated they are not flight risks, should be granted and that they have co-operated with authorities. Mabuyakhulu was granted R50 000 in bail along with two others.
