The two parties thrashed out their issues, including overtime and the suspension of shop stewards, in an overnight meeting that lasted nine hours.

The meeting was facilitated by Premier Willies Mchunu, who yesterday attended a community meeting, where residents spoke of their frustration and anger.

Mchunu's spokesperson, Thami Ngidi says the agreement is a culmination of a series of meetings by the premier over the past week.

Ngidi says residents will have to rely on water tankers for a little while longer.

SAMWU provincial secretary, Jaycee Ncanana says they've signed the agreement.

"We are happy workers are back to work and people in that area are getting their basic human right, which is water. Everything is back to normal," he said.
