Level 4: Sun International temporarily closes its doors

Sun International says it would have been difficult for its hotels, casinos and resorts to operate under lockdown level 4, which is why it has decided to close them temporarily.

"We remain hopeful that the worst of the latest Covid-19 outbreak will have subsided 14 days from now, so that we can safely reopen our hotels, resorts and casinos," says COO Graham Wood.

The Wild Coast Sun on the KwaZulu-Natal south coast is also closed for two weeks. 

 

Casinos can't operate, and social gatherings and alcohol sales are not allowed during alert level 4.

Wood adds they couldn't keep their doors open with no sit-down service permitted in restaurants. 

 

"We are mindful that government is concerned about the risk of transmission and the need to curtail the rise in new infections. 


"However, these restrictions will have a further negative impact on our tourism industry, the thousands of people employed and the surrounding local communities."
