KZN's SASSA glitch to be remedied
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) in KwaZulu-Natal says that the country’s postal service is working on increasing the capacity of its social grant system, following this week's pay out crisis.
It is believed that around 700 000 thousand social grant recipients did not receive their grants on time due to a glitch in the system.
This led to long queues forming outside various pay-points since Monday, with many arriving in the early hours of the morning and braving the icy conditions brought by this week's cold front.

SASSA says the number of beneficiaries registered on the new post office system more than quadrupled in the period of a month, putting strain on the system.
The agency's Vusi Mahaye says KZN has been experiencing problems since the beginning of the month.
“The South African Post Office has promised that over time, it will be able to increase its system’s capacity so as load more people on,” Mahaye says, “KZN was affected in a number of areas but we can not confirm figures”.
SASSA is confident that the issue will be resolved in time.
