KZN shooting leaves former ANCYL member in critical condition

Former ANC Youth League Secretary General, Sindiso Magaqa is fighting for his life in hospital following a shooting incident in Umzimkhulu - in southern KZN.

Magaqa and two councillors were attacked near Ibisi Village, north of Harding, at around 6pm yesterday.
Police say two gunmen opened fire on their vehicle with a pistol and a high calibre firearm.

Spokesperson, Thembeka Mbhele says the councillors were ambushed in the attack.
"They fired several shots towards them critically injuring the 35-year-old man. Two women who are councillors were also injured. They were all rushed to the nearest hospital and they are receiving medical attention and a case of attempted murder has been opened. It is being investigated by the provincial organised crime task team," she said.
Mbhele says the investigation is still in its early stages and no arrests have been made.
Officers have not yet been able to establish the motive for the attack.

The Umzimkhulu area has been a hotbed for apparent political violence in recent months.
At least three councillors have been gunned down in the region since April.
