KZN grants will be paid on time, despite crime threat: Social Development

Social Development in KwaZulu-Natal has assured grant recipients in the province that they will be paid on time.

There were concerns after officials revealed there had been more than 10 break-ins at offices in the province, including at their larger branches, between February and August this year.

Gangs stole valuable documents containing the personal details of beneficiaries.No arrests have been made yet and the department's Mhlabunzima Memela says none of the stolen items have been recovered.
Memela is urging recipients not to worry, as all their information is backed-up electronically.
"The files are there for the purpose of having a back-up document. But of course, it might not be easily replaceable," he said.

"Our department officials will have to work around the clock to make sure that the technology we are using helps us assist the individuals and communities that rely on us."
