KZN Education investigating after pupils legs bound as 'punishment'

A video showing a young school pupil with his legs bound while in class has prompted an investigation by the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education.

The incident is said to have happened at a school for the hearing impaired in Amanzimtoti, south of Durban.

It is alleged the boy's legs were bound by a teacher as punishment.

Footage from the video shows the boy battling to walk in the classroom, with his legs bound.

Provincial spokesperson, Muzi Mahlambi says district officials have been sent to the school.

"We will leave no stone unturned when we are investigating. We have dispatched our district officials to go to the school so that they can establish the facts and verify the allegations," confirmed Mahlambi.

"We will then [have a better understanding of] what action needs to be taken."
