KZN cop accused of rape to face disciplinary hearing

A KwaMakhutha-based police officer accused of raping a woman while in police custody is facing internal disciplinary processes.
Last week, the woman came forward and alleged she was attacked while in one of the offices at the KwaMakhutha Police Station near Amanzimtoti.
KZN SAPS spokesperson, Jay Naicker says the officer has not been at work for several days since being served with a notice of the disciplinary hearing.

"On the 25th September this year, the victim and the suspect were involved in an altercation in a tuck shop in KwaMakhutha. The victim was allegedly raped by the suspect before she was released.
"She reported the matter to her grandmother, who took her to a clinic. The station commander was notified of the incident by the clinic and immediately initiated a criminal investigation."
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate is also probing the matter.
