IPID probes woman's alleged rape at KZN police station

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) is probing the alleged rape of a woman while in police custody in KZN.

A 24-year-old woman says she was attacked two weeks ago in one of the offices at the KwaMakhutha Police Station near Amanzimtoti.

IPID's Ndileka Cola said: "It is alleged that the victim was taken by the police officer from one of the shops to KwaMakhutha SAPS, where the victim was allegedly raped.
"IPID investigation process continues, which includes visiting the crime scene to gather all necessary evidence. The investigation into the matter is at an advanced stage."
