The provincial body has consistently thrown its weight behind Zuma and his presidency, which has recently been mired in controversy.

Yesterday, thousands of people marched through the streets of Pretoria to the Union Buildings, demanding that Zuma be removed as president.

Yesterday's National Day of Action was organised by several opposition parties and civil society organisations, who have vowed that the rolling mass action will spread to the provinces.

But Super Zuma says it won't deter them.

"We are supporting President Zuma. We are unshaken about that. We are saying what happened yesterday and the attempt to come here in KZN will just be a gathering of opposition parties who failed to convince voters in 2014 and were defeated in their views," he said.

Meanwhile a political analyst, Sanusha Naidoo, has questioned whether the protest action against the president has staying power.

"The most important thing is that if you have to think about a mass democratic movement that came together to challenge some of the laws of the apartheid state, the formation of the UDF in the 1980s is the question of sustainability," she said.
