KZN ANC consider appeal against high court ruling

The leadership of the KZN ANC are currently discussing whether or not to appeal today's Pietermaritzburg High Court ruling that the party's 2015 provincial elective conference as well as its decisions were invalid.

A group of ANC members cried foul over the results, calling for a rerun.

ANC KZN spokesperson, Mdumiseni Ntuli says they will know what exactly their next move as the party will be by Thursday.

Ntuli says they are of the view that the right processes were followed for the conference.

"We are definitely looking at appealing the matter. The court is setting a system that's unsustainable. We are convinced that everything done in the conference was above board. We don't want to believe that one court judgement must make a determination which will remain unchallenged," he says.

Reacting to the court's decision, Nomagugu Simelane-Zulu from the Women's League says the results will remain the same even with a re-election.

Former KZN chairperson, Senzo Mchunu welcomed the ruling - saying it's an opportunity for the provincial to re-look at their internal structures.

The ANC KZN leadership has been given 15 days to appeal the judgment.

Provincial ANC chairperson Sihle Zikalala, deputy Willies Mchunu were among the respondents in the case.
