ANC members supporting Mchunu challenged the results.

They approached the court to have the conference declared null and void, citing irregularities in the voting process.

The conference saw Sihle Zikalala chosen as the party's provincial chairperson over Mchunu.

Mchunu says the court ruling is an opportunity to introspect.

"The outcome of the court case gives us an opportunity as the ANC in KZN to basically take a relook at the path that we have walked towards this particular conference and even long before and move to a new path. We will not go wrong if we go back to the values and traditions of the ANC," he says.

But the KZN ANC Women's League's Nomagugu Simelane-Zulu has accused Mchunu of not respecting the culture and traditions of the party.

"Today, I am convinced that the decision that we took to elect comrade Sihle Zikalala as a chairperson was the best decision that was taken by the province because Senzo Mchunu has confirmed that he was not the correct leader and he is not the person to lead this organisation," she says.
