Interdicts, summons to be issued against illegal protesters: KZN MEC
Updated | By Bernadette Wolhuter
The KZN government plans on hitting illegal protesters where it hurts - in their pockets.
It's released details of its plan to quash the wave of violent unrest sweeping through the province.
The Provincial Executive Council has put together a team of MECs to tackle the issue of illegal demonstrations.
They want to sort the problem out within three months.
Now, their plan includes boosting security at flash points, educating people on the proper channels to follow when planning a protest and responding to grievances.
But Community Safety MEC, Mxolisi Kaunda, says they'll take their fight to the courts too.

They'll be taking civil action against those who don't toe the line.
"Departments may also institute civil proceedings against unlawful protesters in the form of applying for interdicts. Interdicts granted may include cost orders against the leaders. This was done successfully in Weenan and will be implemented across the province."
Kaunda says summons may also be issued in order to recover any damages caused.
