Protesters close Durban's N2 North
Updated | By ECR Newswatch
Protesters have shut down the N2 Northbound in the vicinity of the cement factory, south of Durban.
Motorists who drove past the commotion this morning have been describing what they saw.
Durban Metro police are on the scene.
Spokesperson, Parboo Sewpersadh says burning tyres have been strewn across the roadway, making it impossible for vehicles to get through.
He says their priority right now is to put out the fires and keep motorists safe.
"Traffic is diverted onto the M4 southern freeway where there was a huge backlog. Metro Police and SAPS are on scene. Our main goal is to extinguish the fires and open the roadway for now," Sewpersadh said.
Sewpersadh says the N2 near Amanzimtoti has also been affected.
"We have another incident of a protest and tyres blocking the road on Umbogintwini Hill. Traffic is being diverted on the R102."
