IFP says local govt must do more to prevent farm attacks
Updated | By Newswatch
The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) in KwaZulu-Natal says local government needs to do more to address farm murders in the province.

The party says, despite having all the necessary resources at hand, not enough is being done to address these attacks.
The IFP's been reacting to the murder of well-known Howick farmer, Hedley James Brown.
The 69-year-old was found on his Lions River property on Monday.

He had been assaulted and suffered stab wounds.
Three firearms and a laptop were stolen during the attack.
The party's calling for tougher sentences for convicts in these crimes.

It also wants farm attacks and murders to be treated as a separate crime category and priority crimes - adding that these need a particular solution.
At the same time, the IFP's urging the police to ensure the safety of people in rural areas, farm owners and their employees.
