The party, together with its youth wing, marched to the Durban City Hall today and handed over a memorandum of demands.

The IFP is upset over Gumede’s continued presence within the municipality and her delivery of the City’s budget earlier in the week.

Gumede is facing corruption-related charges in connection with a multi-million Rand DSW tender dating back to 2016.

She and her co-accused were released on bail after appearing in the Durban Commercial Crimes Court.

The IFP’s Mkhuleko Hlengwa told supporters outside City Hall that Gumede’s continued presence creates the possibility for intimidation and undue influence.

Hlengwa says the party will not top demonstrating until Gumede is removed from office.

“The new MEC for COGTA is duty-bound to intervene here in eThekwini,” said Hlengwa.

He said the MEC must act and place the municipality under administration.

“It is reckless and irresponsible not to act,” he said.
