Councillors object to eThekwini Mayor's delivery of budget
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Some Durban councillors interrupted eThekwini Mayor, Zandile Gumede earlier and asked her to excuse herself from delivering the City's budget.
They said she should not table the budget with corruption charges hanging over her head.
IFP councillor, Mdu Nkosi interrupted proceedings at Durban City Hall to plead with Gumede.
"We appeal to her conscious to say protect the integrity and image of this municipality. Don't participate," Nkosi said.
They asked Gumede and other councillors implicated in corruption to leave the chamber, but their protestations were dismissed and the mayor tabled the budget.
Gumede appeared in the commercial crimes court two weeks ago, along with Councillor Mondli Mthembu and businessman Craig Ponnan.
