Hunger strike at Estcourt Correctional Centre 'misinformation'
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
The Department of Correctional Services says there is no truth to rumours that inmates at the Estcourt Correctional Centre have gone on a hunger strike.

Messages have been going around on social media saying that prisoners are protesting against former president Jacob Zuma's incarceration.
Zuma has been at the facility for the last two days after he handed himself over to authorities to begin serving a 15-month prison sentence.

The department's spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo spoke to Newswatch from outside the prison.
"That is purely misinformation. We are on the ground, if there was anything disrupting our operations, we would have announced.
"We, therefore, call upon people to dissect information when we receive it as it is going to be a lot such stories emerging from different fronts. Hence as a department, we continue to be transparent so we can state that there is nothing disturbing our operations."
