The court ruled today that such a decision by the South African government to grant Mugabe diplomatic immunity was inconsistent with the constitution.

The DA's James Selfe attended proceedings. He says the opposition party believes the ruling is the right one.

"Dr Mugabe was not entitled to diplomatic immunity, but she used this to evade prosecution in South Africa. We are very pleased that the court has now, in unequivocal language, said that she was not entitled to that diplomatic immunity and that she should, in theory, come back and face trial in South Africa," said Selfe.
