Fourth suspect arrested in connection with murder of Chatsworth woman

Police have confirmed they have arrested a fourth suspect in connection with the murder elderly Chatsworth mother, Jinsee Hairam.

SAPS spokesperson, Jay Naicker says detectives nabbed the 37-year-old in Lusiksiki in the Eastern Cape.


"The suspect was brought to KZN this morning and has been detained pending his court appearance. Yesterday the third suspect in the murder case appeared at the Chatsworth Magistrate's Court and was denied bail."


"He will appear in court again on 27 February when he will join his co-accused," he says.

Three other suspects were caught in Greyville and Ndwedwe in KZN and the Eastern Cape's Matatiele area. 


Hairam, 72, was strangled to death in her Kharwastan home last Tuesday. 


Her daughter was hospitalised with a head injury. 


The community are working on their own safety plan to beef up security in the area.

Sam Pillay who's with the CPF in Kharwastan, says they want to lead a unified effort against crime.


"We are looking at whistles and sirens and neighbours visiting each other and keeping a list of numbers on the fridge that is readily available."


"We will discuss that in detail this weekend and hopefully, we got the community support more than we did before," he says.
