South Africans will cast their votes in the national and provincial elections tomorrow.

A hundred thousand people have successfully applied to vote early in KZN, 70 000 of those ballots will be cast at their homes.

Newswatch spoke to a police officer who made his mark at Durban City Hall yesterday.

He says he had to vote early because he'll be working tomorrow.

"On the day of voting I will be busy ensuring that there is peace around all voting stations in theThekwini Municipality. It's important that I vote. Should we have problems, I know I voted so I have a right to complain and the right to pass an opinion."

KwaZulu-Natal police say they have conducted their threat assessments and know which areas need extra officers on election day.

Security has been a talking point in the province recently, with a number of hotspots identified as a result of political violence.

Service delivery protests and a municipal workers strike in Durban have also sparked fears of possible disruptions.

"We are aware of the regular protest action that have been taking place. We know of the areas affected by flooding and [residents] complaining about infrastructure," he said.

SAPS spokesperson, Jay Naicker says all officers who would have been off-duty or office-based over the next few days have been roped in to serve at polling stations.

Naicker told reporters in Durban yesterday that there will also be roving teams on the ground.

"We are quite confident with the deployments that we have in place together with the IEC and all other departments. We are confident that people will be able to go and vote," he said.

Special votes wrap up today.
