'Everything is too costly' laments national shutdown supporters in Durban

Public transport services and businesses are up and running in Durban despite calls for a national stay-away on Wednesday.
The Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) and the South African Federation of Trade Unions (Saftu) urged workers countrywide to join the shutdown in protest against rising food, fuel costs and load shedding.

Authorities monitoring the province's key routes say there have been no major issues.
Groups will march under the labour federations' banner to Durban City Hall to hand over a memorandum.
One vendor arrived early to set up shop at the meeting point in King Dinizulu Park.
He says he supports today's mass action.

"Everything is too costly. There are many young people who need jobs. Those who are not working are suffering a lot.
"We need to create more job opportunities. Here we are selling Cosatu uniforms so that they can wear it if they need it."
