The Independent Municipal and Allied Trade Union (IMATU) says it has not joined the labour action in eThekwini.

SAMWU-affiliated workers embarked on an unprotected strike last week, demanding better salaries in line with what other metros are paying their staff.

The dispute's disrupted water and power-related repairs, shut health clinics and there's been no refuse collection for a week.

The municipality has now warned striking workers, they risk losing their jobs, if they don't return to their posts.

IMATU's Queen Mbatha says, in the meantime, they have instructed their members to remain vigilant.
