eThekwini lost R34 bn due to Covid

eThekwini Municipality lost R34 billion due to the Covid-19 pandemic's impact on the city's economy.
Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda tabled a R52.3 billion budget on Thursday.

He says the City has also struggled to collect revenue in the last year.
"As a result, our collection rate dropped from 95% in March 2020 to 56%.
"Subsequently we introduced a special debt relief programme that assisted business and residents.

"No interest was raised on arrears. To date the relief programme has assisted more than 20 000 customers."
