Nine employees at the Ugu Municipality have been dismissed for gross misconduct.

The workers, who are union shop-stewards, were initially suspended for allegedly disrupting a disciplinary hearing in 2019.
Municipal spokesperson France Zama says Ugu will continue to implement stringent measures to maintain law and order.

"The disciplinary hearing that was held issued a suction of dismissal and the municipality, unfortunately, had to implement that undesirable dismissal.
"We can confirm also that as a result of these dismissals, these employees also still have the right in terms of following all the due processes in relation to the outcome that the municipality has issued out to them."
